Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for November 30, 1987
Transcript:
Calvin: I'm going to be the next Houdini! Tie me to this chair and I'll escape! Tie the knots tighter, don't make it so easy for me. Tie my feet, too. Hobbes: All right, let's see you get out of that. Calin: Ha! The Great Calvini can escape from anything! Parent: Calvin, dinner time! Hobbes: Should I tell her you're tied up at the moment, ha ha? Calvin: I'll be (mmf) out of here (rrg) in no time. Gosh, I can't even move.

This is one of the ones that treads such a fine line between the two realities: Calvin’s view of the world, and what everyone else would see.

The Great Calvini isn’t so great.

“Calvin is tied up at the moment”
“Calvin is at the end of his rope.”
“Calvin is in one of his escapist fantasies.”

Indeed. I find it extremely difficult to tie one’s self up to a chair with any success. Perhaps Hobbes IS real, he just pretends to be a toy when he’s around people other than Calvin. This would be the simplest explanation. OHMYGOSH! He tried out for “Toy Story”, but didn’t make the cut, so he went with another angle!

HOW did Calvin tie himself to the chair?

Calvin, that’s like going into a underwater case handcuffed to the ground of the case.
