“beggars” will (on occasion) make more from the kindness of others than they would from an honest day’s work. certain of this type are to be found in the city of Toronto. despite being “outed” in the press they still continue and still sucker people in. look up “Shaky lady” if you disbelieve.
gmartin997, A number of years ago I was getting off I95 here in Dania Beach, FL and a guy had a sign that said something like, “I won’t lie, it’s for beer!” I had just been to the store and reached in the bag, pulled out a cold beer and handed it to him. He smiled and thanked me!
There was a similar scandal in Chicago some years back. A local TV station used hidden cameras to track some of the people who were panhandling drivers of cars leaving Midway Airport (there is—or was—a fairly long wait for a left turn at the airport exit). Several of them finished begging, walked a few blocks to their parked Mercedes, and drove to their fancy homes in the ‘burbs..Of course, the worst of the franchised beggars are the public TV stations. Two weeks out of every six (or so it seems around here) they hold all the good PBS shows hostage and effectively threaten that if you don’t want to see nothing but “Yawni plays at Macchu Picchu” or “Wealthy Dad’s Guide to Being Not Poor” for the next six months, you’d better send them some money…
Update on yesterday—to those who observed that despite the way the ‘burbs are set up to make it impossible to go anywhere without driving, you still shouldn’t drive drunk… I couldn’t agree more. What bothers me is the absurdity—or more likely the (ahem) financial incentives—that cause politicians and planners to set up the ‘burbs so that the only way to get anywhere, including bars and restaurants, is to drive. Apparently they’d rather see a certain number of deaths than either restrict alcohol sales or (horror of horrors) provide a public transportation system.

I wonder how many hands a wrinkled old dollar bill have been in.

If things keep going the way they are, this franchise will soon have as many employees as McDonald’s.

Would anybody want those people doing any sort of work, even leaf raking? Assuming they actually would?
