Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for September 12, 1988
Transcript:
Calvin: Have you been reading the papers? Grown-ups really have the world fouled up. Acid rain, toxic wastes, holes in the ozone, sewage in the oceans, and on and on! The only bright side to all this is that eventually there may not be a piece of the planet worth fighting over.

The interesting thing about this comic is how little has changed. The environment, by every measure, is still getting worse overall—and those in power are fighting over who gets to do what to it. Or ignoring the problem.

I wouldn’t imagine myself reading a newspaper at Calvin’s age.
