    10 min / 60 = 0.1667 hours

    s = t x Vm

    s = 0.1667 hours x 60 mph = 10 miles (Jack)

    s = 0.1667 hours x 30 mph = 5 miles (Joe)

    s = 10 miles + 5 miles = 15 miles (from each other in the beginning)

    An easy formula but I’m doing this in introduction to physics and chemistry in high school, I don’t think this is very fair to first graders :/

    dimensional analysis.

    the total speed is 90 mph (60 + 30)there are 60 min in an hour

    so its 90 m / 60 min

    to cancel out the minutes and get miles, you multiply 10 minthat gives you 15 miles

    Remember: long ago, Calvin entered the 5th Dimension—a place where TIME HAS NO MEANING!

    15 miles. But seriously, these problems seem ridiculously hard for first grade.

    How can he solve that problem if he doesn’t know 11 + 7?
