I like Holly’s expression in the first panel. Do mice like coffee, or is that a cup of cream cheese? Please just don’t tell me the kind of beans they use in their brew…
It’s good to have someone like Holly, the eternal optimist, around. Unfortunately both Wally and Cooper have a better understanding of the real danger brewing in Endtown. Words have incredible power, especially the right words being said to the disenfranchised and the disillusioned.
You have to watch out for those with all the answers. It’s scary how many are willing to let them march us all off toward the world of Endtown. The charismatic psychopath is a stock character in too many real life situations. This comment is bipartisan.
You’re always going to have a group that feels like it’s left out in the rain. And when they aren’t listened to, they can turn to people with very drastic views. Look at history and the world today. . .
Our Cooper is somewhat defensive While Holly still looks for the good And Wally is pondering, pensive, Bad traits of this new neighborhood Still Cooper is probably closer To Endtown and it’s people’s views And Holly might then seem moroser Were she picking up the same clues And speaking of clues, there’s the Topside We think is still lying ahead I will hope Holly still finds an upside When facing that danger and dread We know Wally’s so far been able To take care of business up there But now there’s more lives on the table Jackrabbit — Topsiders — beware! =|====/ Level Head
I’m not so sure those people are representative of Endtown. They’re more representative of a minority of people who didn’t throw away the flyer and have better things to do. But then, such a minority formed a putsch in Germany about 80 years ago.
Jake started his discourse with very valid points raised, touching a lot of the fears the community has (which has led to suicides, or mental breakdowns like Gustine wanted to avoid). The most dangerous self-proclaimed leaders always use base truths to snare an audience for their own ends. Instead of soothing their fears, though, Jake just fanned them by the very old argument of “let’s have fake security by banding together on a narrow common point and excluding everyone else”. Yeah, he definitely has other motives. And we’re edging closer to that poster Aaron showed us. I’m still wondering what Flask will do, if anything…
When I saw the way in the small cafe They got past the prior bluster I was pleased indeed! For they soon will need All the friends that they can muster And while only part of the Endtown’s heart Beat in that grim rally’s room Cooper’s point’s well taken: All but two’ve forsaken Common sense — and he fears doom Like a small Endtown we have comments down In the space below each strip And when one derides … well we have both sides That have joined us on this trip So our politics might avoid hard kicks And maintain a gentle manner For if we revile those of different style We unfurl Jackrabbit’s banner =|====/ Level Head
There is a lot of common sense to be culled from these panels. Holding up a mirror to society that quite a few politicians need to peer into. Good stuff.
The End pretty much eliminated the different human races among the mutant population, but apparently there are still racial issues, reassigned. Now, all the classifiable mutants are the “majority” and the unclassifiable ones like Cooper are the “minorities”. The classifiables are familiar, recognizable, “safe”, and the unclassifiables are unknown, odd, “foreign”, and intimidating. Since the End, they’ve probably been treated with distrust and uncertainty, and people like Jackrabbit want to take steps to avoid encountering “them”. Cooper has had to live with this type of treatment since his transformation, and how they see him has affected how he sees them, accurately or not. The majority may be like Holly, not having had the same experience as Cooper and not thinking the way he thinks “normals” think, but bigots and assholes always give their groups bad reputations, and the ones among the “normals” have done their job with him.Wally’s reactions indicate that his background is more like that of the people Cooper’s been encountering than Holly’s, and he’s trying to make up for it. Living alone topside since the End, he’s had few encounters with other mutants, and his first reactions to Endtown’s people have been shock and prejudice. His defense of Cooper may be more atonement and guilt than just for Cooper’s benefit. Holly’s helping Cooper because she’s pure of heart, and Wally’s helping him because he’s not.But I may be wrong.
I am beginning to like Cooper. He seems to be a very perceptive type of person. Holly hasn’t had the disillusionment of society that most have probably experienced, so she has incredibly high hopes for everyone. Wally and Cooper, on the other hand…no such cake.
Sad to say, I think that Cooper is right. Even in our world today, there are too many “sheeple”.Most politicians, BOTH Democrats AND Republican are lying, thieving PARASITES who panic the Sheeple to wield their power. They start out in DC poor, then pig out at the public trough until they’re rich. Most won’t leave unless they’re caught in a scandal. They only look out for themselves, NOT ordinary people. It’s a shame, that out of 537 politicos (435 representatives, 100 senators, 1 president, and 1 vice president) there’s only a FEW decent people. You know that 1 bad apple…this is more like 1 good apple can’t save the majority of bad ones in the barrel.
Sorry, Aaron, but this story arc is pushing my buttons! I, too, recognize your storyline. Sheeple and politicos bring out ALL my bad feelings.

Cooper did say there is more Endtowners like him (and humans resistant to the mutant bug) , than like Jacob.
