For the benefit of newcomers (welcome!) and those not certain whether or not I still have books to sell, here’s the pitch: The Endtown mini-comic that I produced for Comicpalooza 2011 is now available to YOU for the offensively low price of $2.50 (price includes s&h, international add $1 for each copy ordered ). Besides sporting a snazzy full color cover (http://tinyurl.com/3uytdhy), it contains an all-new 22 page story that is available nowhere else. And just because I feel like doing it, I’ll sign and personalize (if desired) each and every copy I mail out. Simply pay via PayPal using my email address, aaronneathery@gmail.com, and be sure to include your mailing address. If you can’t pay with PayPal, email me for my snailmail. And, just so you know, I’m completely open to donations. The cat and mouse that live in my head will thank you. :-)
Holly’s stopped running She let someone catch her It took a hurt stranger To steal her heart clean away But this news is stunning The one who could match her He’s heading to danger Just when she was okay Suddenly Wally Is leaving for Topside He needs to do something To pay off his debt So brave little Holly Will go with him outside She’s more hurt than frightened And she’ll keep him yet… Nobody ever Treated her kindly Worked the Café Lived her life all alone Even her friends Had turned into alkies Then she met Wally And found she was home Suddenly Wally Though bloody and beaten And needing her nursing And falling apart She put him together (And almost got eaten!) But now it’s her Wally Who’s stolen her heart… =|====/ Level Head
Wally’s been in the Great Waste for four years. It’s been six years since The End. More indication that he spent time as a Topsider, or at least pre-Topsider, before becoming a mutant and a fugitive.
I think it probably took some time before “Topsider” was a thing to be identified, unless they already had an infrastructure in place at the time of The End. It could have taken two years for the surviving mutaphobic shelters to find each other and share resources, technology, and ideology. They probably accelerated their research on living mutation-free, using mutants as test subjects, and possibly using conscientious objectors as well. Wally could have been an objector who was tested on, mutantized, and escaped, and since then, the Topsiders became more Topsiderish.
The tragic look on Holly’s face in the last panel is shear brilliance. Fantastic art work. Truly captures what she truly must be feeling at this moment.
Wally would always have that feeling of guilt causing the death of 2 others – unless he can find a way to “pay back” the debt. This is his chance and he knows it. So does Holly – she just doesn’t want to accept it. And who would when you’re in love?
AAAARRRGGH!Wally, if you go—-TAKE Holly with you. DONOTSEPARATE, STAYSAFE!!!Watch each other’s backs.Aaron, you’re making me cry! (The storyline)Today’s strip is a nail-biter, and the artwork is beautifully done!

Sign of a great comic: when your readers become so invested in the characters you’ve created that the characters become “real” to them.
