Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for May 14, 1990
Transcript:
Calvin: I've come up with a new system for doing homework. I call it "effective time management," or "ETM" for short. I've drawn up a schedule for each school subject, and I use this kitchen timer to monitor my pace. Thanks to ETM, I'm much more efficient, and my work goes faster! ETM: RINGG! Calvin: There! My math minute is up! Set the clock for my spelling assignment, ok? Hobbes: Um, your schedule calls for smaller time increments than this clock can measure.

Effective, according to Calvin

A minute spent focusing is probably better than an hour lost in daydreams.

I wonder how long he spent coming up with the system.

That’s probably how much time Calvin has to do his homework. Then it’s straight to the TV.

Doing each subject in a 1 minute duration. He could do 60 subjects in an hour! Who cares if he actually finished reading the first question before time’s up right? Pacing is everything.
