Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for September 29, 1990
Transcript:
Hobbes: How did you do on your math quiz? Calvin: I flunked it...but only because I ran out of time. The worst part though was that Susie Derkins won our bet on who'd get the better score. I had to pay her 25 cents. But get this! I cheated her! I only gave her three dimes! Ha! Hobbes: I think you'd better study harder. Calvin: Oh, now don't you start on me.

Yeah, Calvin. I remember when I lost a bet to a girl and gave 20% more money than I meant to.

I guess he thinks dimes are worth less than quarters ‘cuz they’re smaller.

Yep—he keeps wining bets like this, and paying off like that, and he’ll be broke in no time.

Even if you added up the volume of three dimes and compared that to the volume of a quarter, the former number would still be bigger.

Hobbes is right, Calvin. You really need to put more effort into your schoolwork.
