Double entendre: a phrase that has two meanings, one of which is usually a pun, and the other which is a very straight foward meaning.

The duck is a reference to a game show called “You Bet Your Life”.

On “You Bet Your Life”, an ancient game show starring Groucho Marx, there was a “word of the day”. The game was pretty lame, but the show was worth watching because Groucho would talk with the contestant before asking the questions. And if someone said the “word of the day”, confetti and a fake duck (or chicken, I forget) would come down, and the contestant would win an extra prize.
