Grapes’ sugar is fructose, which ferments to ethyl alcohol. Milk’s sugar is lactose, which ferments to lactic acid. The two substances behave differently as preservatives. (It’s fun to be smarter than a Frazz comic

Zeditor: Grape sugar is about 50/50 fructose/sucrose, as are most fruits. Lactose does oxidize to lactic acid, but not by fermentation, which requires yeast. It’s fun to have a degree in chemistry.)

I meant to write 50/50 fructose/glucose. One of the dangers of being an “expert”.

Un-Pasturized milk, however- doesn’t ever go bad, it only sours and can be used as sour cream, yogurt, etc.
