Nevertheless, I feel the need for spiritual guidance and comfort as I face the day's struggles. I think that since the Hobby Lobby decision you couldn’t actually send a kid to the principal’s office for that… Can’t be sure though, the decision makes no sense so it’s hard to say.

A simple ‘no’ would have been sufficient, here. Anybody asking THAT politely would certainly show some restraint, in the face of opposition.
