I gave into the squirrels a long time ago and place a plate of seeds and nuts out for them everyday, but I have to take my bird feeders in at night or the raccoons destroy them. I forgot a suet feeder last night and I had to bend it back into shape after they were done raiding it.

I’ve never understood why people who feed birds get so upset when the squirrels get into the food. Animals in the wild will eat whatever they can find. Is it because they think birds are cuter, or more helpless? Are squirrels not entitled to a free meal? Seems very discriminatory to me.

Squirrels are much more fun to watch on the bird feeder.

We get lots of birds and lately some squirrels and chipmunks—have also watched baby possums grow up eating in our platform feeder. Figure they just need a meal and am glad to provide one. Have a bit of a soft spot for the squirrels because my Mom and I enjoyed watching them together from her kitchen window. She’s gone now but memories linger. :D

I have learned to love the squirrels and chipmunks. I like raccoons, but they destroy my feeders, so they are the only animals I try to foil.
