    Invention doesn’t necessarily take time. Sabertooth tiger attacks caveman. Caveman picks up a log and bashes tiger. He has just invented a tool called a “club.” Now he weill keep it with him to bash further tigers, and may even think of ways to improve it between tiger attacks, like tying a sharp rock to the end; now he has invented an “axe.” There you are, Hobbes.

    Survival of the fittest. The ones that invented or used tools were the ones who survived.
