I think Sparky would have had mixed feelings (about Snoopy, here). He was certainly of a generation that would have found this sort of thing out of place on the comics page, but he was also AWARE that times and mores change. At the very least, I don’t think he would have seen it as disrespect…
shytimes, her main issue seems to be self-doubt, the nagging possibility that she’s nothing more than just a trophy wife. Also, given her looks and (now) her money, it’s possible she simply doesn’t have anybody else she can talk to who can be relied upon to tell her the truth. Therapy needn’t only be useful in times of crisis; it can help with day-to-day stuff too.
It just occurred to me… Maybe Lucretia is (was) the Little Red-Haired Girl…
I don’t see it as disrespectful, at all. The idea that Marcie would grow up to be a therapist is humorous and not all out of character for her, really.

I don’t think Schulz would appreciate Snoopy sniffing the hydrant. He was always too tasteful for such references.
