Heck—our church was built just 100 years ago. When they came to renovate it, the workers said that no two bays were exactly the same, or exactly square. Nearly everything had to be worked out from scratch.
When I put in a new back door and refinished the hallway I also found out that spacing studs at 16 inches seems to be a relatively new concept. Whole lot of framing and shimming involved.
