So this isn’t your cunning plan to boot Scott off the strip in order to hire a fourth artist? It has been three years and artists usually don’t stick around for long on this strip. I’m sure Scott would have landed on his feet and found that cushy syndicate job he’s always dreamed of.
Its interesting to see a different perspective on the characters from time to time I have always enjoyed all the artists :) and this strip makes my day when I wake up its my favorite part of the day, enjoy your vacation Mr. Roberts and keep up the great work Mr. Zakour
I missed Mr. Roberts already. I mean, I have been viewing his work since the first day I subscribe to Working Daze. I’m used to his artwork already. But now all the sudden it change… I really need some time.Anyway, just one question – I though I heard it is a standard practice to prepare a week of work in advance before he/she takes a week off. Is there such a thing?
Actually, Kyle was on the strip five years. But yeah, you can work ahead of schedule. The truth is, I’m already back from the vacation, and starting next week’s strips. This coming week was just for fun.
I went to San Diego with Christine and her kids. Our first day was the last day of Comic Con, so I stopped by to see what was what, and spent the rest of the week doing the tourist thing. I checked in every day to see the comments on the strip.
It’s just that it’s not really Mort Walker- it’s me. If it WERE Mort, then sure, he’d sign his name for real. There was an incident a number of years ago wherein Dave Sim (Cerebus) claimed that Jeff Smith (Bone) had threatened to punch him, and Dave challenged Jeff to a fistfight. It didn’t happen.

BTW, this week was all Scott’s idea and I really approve.

Mort Walker from Beetle Bailey.

The “Beetle Bailey” style really works here. I wonder how it would look anime-style…
scottartist creator over 13 years ago
The gag is actually paraphrased from an old Beetle strip, in which he ‘fluffed up’ rocks for a nap under a tree. Beetle and Ed have a lot in common.

All the ‘guest artist’ names will be slightly misspelled, to avoid misrepresentation and challenges to fistfights.

This is a really fun week. Scott is an expert at duplicating styles.

Jeff is mild mannered and easygoing. That’s why he didn’t get himself involved in the fight.

Who’s Waker? I Googled Cartoonist + Waker and nothing came up.

I like the joke. For those of us on computers 18-19 hours a day, we wish they were a little more “fluffy”.

Scott is very talented……although I call him by a different name:)

Rita’s just looking ‘Mort’-ified today.

Just to be clear, Scott has drawn every cartoon this week. :)

THOUGHT I recognized Walker’s handiwork, even the logo uses the same font type as Beetle Bailey.

Wow… Rita looks like Little Lulu (or one of those old, chubby-faced comic girls). Weird. ;-)
