Melvin: Hey, Bob. When bomb blow up? Bob: Toomorrow at noon, Melvin. Melvin: Well, better be quick 'cause me has busy afternoon. Bob: Melvin seem unclear on concept.
Ah, so this is why Melvin is BombBoy Croc! He’s even a step lower than Bob in the croc rankings! And that must be Larry, who has just appeared today, at the right (yesterday, I thought Melvin was talking with Larry, but It was Bob, as has now become clear—I feel like a speciesist for saying it, but the crocs all look pretty much alike unless they have some distinguishing attribute such as a hat, etc.).
Re: the “South Park” look— I think that’s just to make the characters stand out against the background. Drawing a comic isn’t all beer and skittles (or even gin and M&Ms).
I hate this gratuitous killing of characters. Is their life really worth nothing? (Well, besides the point that he’s a cartoon character..) Why can’t the bomb just be placed next to the wall? All he has to do is take off the jacket! Instead, we make jokes about suicide bombers, and suicide bombers still make headlines with how many people they kill, these days.
There are a few suggestions on this page about sensible alternatives to having Melvin go boom, but which would be funnier? As for the distinction between fact and fiction, I’ve enjoyed cartoons and Three Stooges films for a long time, and I’ve never thought that real-life violence was funny. I’ll bet that a lot of folks here can say the same thing.
O.K. You sign-up right over there at the tail end of the line. After mastering swimming, sleeping, and sun bathing you serve as understudy becoming a handbag, boots or shoes. Oh by the way, is it true you taste like chicken?

I’m surprised Bob isn’t wearing the bomb.

Even Bob isn’t THAT dumb. Melvin, however …

Does today’s strip have a “South Park-ish” look to it?

Melvin doesn’t seem to be the brightest croc in the lake. How did he get out of the shallow end of the gene pool?

Pastis usually names the minor characters after his relatives … so he’s probably got a relative named Melvin.

Maybe Melvin is smarter then what everyone thinks, aren’t the crocs always killed off and then come back like nothing happened?
Uncle Mordy about 13 years ago
Bob will probably take over the belt for a few minutes around noon so that Melvin can hit the little crocs room…

Exactly what cause is he dying for??

The blast will only bounce off the wall and go the other way. They need to drill holes all along the base and insert the sticks in each hole.

Melvin has blue eyes, one blew this way, one blew that way.

The crocs could use some help from a real demolitions expert. Preferably one with feathers and a bill.

Melvin has appointments ALL over town at noon tomorrow.

I keep seeing that wall and thinking red, blue, and yellow will appear all Mondrian everywhere.

Isn’t Bob usually the one who dies?
