An old story – around the year 870, Harald, king of Vestfold, asked the dauthter of the king of Hordaland to marry him. She told him that she couldn’t marry anyone who wasn’t man enough to be king of all of Norway. Harald took a vow to neither cut nor comb his hair until he had conquered all the neighboring kingdoms. People called him “Harald Shaghair”. When he became king of all of Norway, he had his hair done and married his princess, and when people saw him, they changed his nickname to “Harald Finehair”.
