I think you’re right! That faucet has been closed for a loooong time. The pressure that has built up behind it will be incredible. Once the faucet is opened the least little bit, the entire water supply of Gasoline Alley will attempt to rush through all at once, and BAMMM! That so-called plumber should realize this.
When you consider that a single gallon of water weighs 8 pounds, and that millions of gallons are connected to the faucet… well, I wouldn’t touch that faucet!
I’m not sure what’s more terrifying, the idea that Skeeziks didn’t turn on the water in the first place—- or Axegrinder thinking that there would be a big buildup of pressure like that. Somehow I don’t want either of them around my plumbing.
Friend of many years was at one time a computer engineer. When he was on call, often customers would call in the night. Lying in bed, he would ask them to check that the machine was plugged in. Frequently it would not be; when they attended to it, the computer would be fine. He would roll over and go back to sleep…assuming he completely woke when they called.
@PatPiano, you’re correct. When we had our new washer and dryer delivered, the guy hooked them both up and turned on the water so we wouldn’t have to do it ourselves. He made sure everything worked before leaving and taking the old washer and dryer away.
It’s true that I pretty much stick to battery power, but remember that no less an authority than Thomas Edison predicted almost exactly what you just said about the AC generators pioneered by Nikola Tesla, and he electrocuted an elephant (and invented the electric chair) to prove it!
By the way, I think I can guess the punchline that’s coming, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. I’m emailing my prediction to myself so I’ll have date-stamped proof of my prescience.

A pretty simple solution. Skeezix never thought of that before?

Yeah, but we did when the story started!

OK I think were going to see that the water bill was not paid and their water service was shut off. Just guesswork.

Great line, “What’s your plumbing problem, folks?” It establishes right away that he’s a plumber, not a therapist.

Did anyone NOT see this coming?

Oh goodness if that’s the problem, they are in for a treat. Got to pay the plummer just for turning on the water.

I saw this coming when they hooked it up. Same as a person who came to the store and couldn’t get the smart phone to work. Turn the thing on first.

Why didn’t the delivery man make sure the washer worked before he left? I think that’s his job!
