Mom: How was Cartoon Camp, Petey? Petey: Okay. The new teacher is a clown in disguise. He called me "Pete." He wants us to draw a comic every day about our everyday lives. He said it could be boring, dull AND uneventful. Alice: Boy, are you going to ace this! Petey: I'm planning a 15-page comic about that spot on my ceiling that I like to stare at! Mom: Oh. Good.

Pete, I agree with Alice, you’re going to ace this.

Can’t wait to see the cartoon camp diorama.

I think Mr. Other Spinnerack is going to have to take a year-long sabbatical after dealing with Petey for a week! Which may explain what happened to Mr. Original Spinnerack…

Should be riveting, Petey — can’t wait to see it!

Looks like Petey’s in nirvana. Plain, uneventful nirvana. If his nirvana were a color, it would be that indeterminate beige paint color.

Fifteen pages of boring, dull, and uneventful comic gold about the spot on Petey’s bedroom ceiling! If that isn’t a recipe for a prize-winning best seller, I don’t know what is. I don’t know what is.

It might make for great bed-time reading.

The “moovles” behind the van are increasing with each panel. Either Mom is trying to escape the boredom or Richard is using that special nib again.

@readerladyMadeline is the BEST! She loves her kids and knows just how to support Petey through the minefield that is his childhood. Alice is one of the mines.

Is a “clown in disguise” just a person? Are we all clowns in disguise??

As much as I enjoy Petey as a character, I’d sooner rip my own eyes from my skull than read his idea of “comics”. If I were Andre (and, at his age, I basically WAS Andre) I’d drop Mr. Other Spinnerack’s class after two sessions. Fake a cold for two weeks, then say “I’ve missed too much; I can’t go back now.”
Loris seems to have the dedication to produce the work despite the tedium of the assignments, but unless her REAL LIFE heavily involves cute, big-eyed aliens and vampires and robots, I can’t imagine that this course of instruction is in any way going to advance her artistic identity.
