Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for May 24, 2009
Transcript:
Rat says, "What are you looking at, Pig?" Pig says, "I'm searching for my Yiayia." Rat says, "What's a Yiayia?" Pig says, "It's what we called my grandmother. She dies when I was five. I was hoping I can find her in the stars." Rat says, "Pig...deceased people do not become constellations." Pig says, "They do in Greek mythology." Rat says, "No...they don't. The Greeks would look at a few random stars and selectively connect them to form an image they wanted to see." Pig says, "But I want so badly to think she is watching over me." Rat says, "Well, then think it. But you're not gonna get proof up there. Now, c'mon, I'm hungry. Let's grab a burger." Pig says, "Okay."

Around this time was when Stephan Pastis did actually lose his Yiayia, his own grandmother. This is one of the few strips from his real life. Stephan, if you see this, which you probably won’t but still, we all miss her too, even though we’ve probably never met her, because from your treasury descriptions of her, she sounds like an amazing Yiayia.

Reminds me of the Garfield strip where Jim Davis hid a name in the stars.
