I remember when KTVT Dallas was an independent station; its broadcast strength gave it a radius going from Central Oklahoma to Central Texas. Save for six months I spent in El Paso, I was able to watch KTVT from ca. 1987 until it got bought out by CBS ca. 2002 despite moving several times during that period.
I remember when WBAP, channel 5 in Dallas, was the first and only TV station west of the Mississippi. It broadcast only a few hours per day. Harold Taft, an ex-military weatherman during WWII, was the weather man. He was the most accurate through the years, and there has never been another one like him.
