Jason: Aaaa! That's not the apple that was on the kitchen counter, is it? Peter: Um, yeah. Why? Jason: Tomorrow's the first day of school! I was going to give that to my teacher! I spent over an hour at the grocery store selecting the most perfect, flawless apple they had! Do you have any idea how hard it is to maintain an a-octuple-plus average?! Everything has to be perfect! Now all I have left are the apples Mom bought! Those are a-quintuple-plus apples at best! Peter: I ate those, too, by the way. Jason: YOU WHAT?! Peter: I have an idea...does your teacher speak French? woman: A potato?? Jason: It's called an "apple of the earth" in Fr-Who am I kidding? Just flunk me.

Not just French, but Dutch and Afrikaans (“aardappels”). That was actually pretty bright for Peter, and it should’ve gotten Jason credit for knowledge and cleverness. But Jason has no perspective for grades, the little drama queen.

Jason is such an Academic genius, he’s actually trying to avoid being advanced to a higher grade. I would’ve had him taking is senior year of High School by now, but Jason will never jump for that, lest he become the object of affection amongst several girls.

Odd, the drawing style looks like how it was in the beginning. Sure this is a new strip?

in french, the ‘pomme’ means apple and the ‘pomme de terre’ means apple of the ground, or potato

In Austria and parts of Bavaria they say “Erdapfel” which also means “earth apple” (in contrast to the majority of Germany where they say “Kartoffel”).
The official name for this comic on the Foxtrot website is “Pomme de Terre”, fittingly.
