Good morning Vagabounds,Has anyone seen BOTH movies: “The Naked Prey” AND “Apocalypto”? In both movies the main character is being pursued by a group of predators; one movie takes place in Africa and the other among the Mayas. Don’t you think Gibson borrowed the idea of the poison snake biting one of the attackers from “The Naked Prey?”

Morning, Village. No, Arye. Sorry I haven’t see either of them.Hey we did get a litle rain yesterday. Rained for about an hour, several minutes of it was a hard rain. ’Couse the ground was so dry it was soaked up within the next hour, but it was sure a welcome change. Here’s the link to Today’s Annie .

I googled “The Naked Prey” and here’s what I got:Plot Summary forThe Naked Prey (1966) More at IMDbPro »

ad feedbackA group of men are on safari. One of the party refuses to give a gift to a tribe they encounter. The tribe is offended, seizes the party, and one-by-one, kills all but one of the safari members in various creative and horrifying ways. The last surviving member is given “The Lion’s Chance” by the tribal leader to be hunted down by a party of tribal warriors. Naked and weaponless he is set loose, the hunters hot on his heels, beginning a life-or-death hunt through wild Africa. Written by xlr8d1

Hello all you happy people..@Arye: Having not seen “The Naked Pray” I can’t compare the two, but snake bite is a common happening in jungle movies.Whether Gibson borrowed the idea or not, such borrowing is not uncommom in Hollywood..@David: Yah, you got rain! Goody.Even though we nearly drowned this spring, we are dry now and we could use a little rain..Orleans County Fair this week, thier tring for a Guinness Book of World Record, the longest parade of Cadillacs in the world, cerrent record 102 somewhere in Europe.. One little tidbit, the designer of the first Cadillac Henry M. Leland was from Barton, VT home of the OCF..I’ve talked enough, see ya..\\//_

It seems in those days of film making, if one studio had a certain theme, then the other studio had to have it also. Sounds like these two movies.

Ever wonder why there were both Fred Astaire AND Gene Kelley dancing? Or, all those Westerns, then Doctor’s, etc., etc, etc.

@Montana LadyYes, I saw both films. Both films have the theme of a group of people pursueing the hero and getting themselves eliminated one by one. I’m sure Gibson borrowed the idea, although having his actors speaking Maya, a language that very few people speak without infusing post-Colombian words was a real feat.,

PS I know, because I have a limited mayan vocabulary and all the monuments in Merida, Yucatan that have inscriptions in Mayan employ about 10% of the words in Spanish – words like “siglo.”
