Umm… wrong interpretation. “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” wasn’t his take on it, that WAS the ancient law of retribution. Reread your citation (especially Matthew 5:39) and you’ll see what Jesus’ interpretation was (“turn the other cheek”). 38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.
