Luann says to Brad, "Hey, did you know there's a national cartoonists society? They're having their 'Reuben Awards' this weekend in New York." Luann continues, "The nominees for 'Cartoonist of the Year' are Pat Brady, Patrick McDonnell and Greg Evans." Brad replies, "Never heard of 'em." Luann says, "I think I've heard of the first two..." Brad responds, "What's a 'Reuben Award' for? Making sandwiches?"

A “Reuben” award is a comical statue (Designed by famed “gadgetcartoonist” Rube Goldberg) featuring several cartoony men comming out of an inkwell, by climbing a cartoonists pen; it’s given out yearly by the NCS to the year’s outstanding cartoonist. It was first given to Milton Caniff for his strip “Steve Canyon” in 1946
