Bandon, Ore., USA, has a Driftwood Museum! Hachiko, a dog owned by Hidesaburo Ueno of Tokyo, Japan, weighted at the train station every day for his owner to come home from work- for 9 years after Ueno died in 1925! The United States Postal Service released a new Statue of Liberty stamp in 2011- but soon discovered the picture was of a replica rather than the actual NY Harbor statue!

The USPS didn’t claim the stamp was an actual photo, digital or otherwise, did it? Stamps don’t usually depict photos of people and things, do they? They are normally drawings.

In 2009 a great movie was made about Hachiko, called “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale”. It’s available on DVD.

We’re not being nit-picky enough, the statue picture is of the one in Las Vegas at New York-New York. That’s for all the short memoried detail freaks that missed it some months ago, or maybe Ripley just received the story in the mail

The business of the stamp is like noting that “The Odyssey” was not really written by Homer but by another Greek with the same name.

If you look at a list of stamp prices adjusted for inflation, you’ll find that the price of a stam has remained fairly constant through the years. It peaked in 1917 at $0.55 (in 2010 cents) and, more recently, in 1978 at $0.49 (again, in 2010 cents). It’s been around $0.40 – $0.43 for the last thirty years.

To the person who said they were not going to read this strip anymore because of yesterday’s story on tape worms. Hiding your head in the sand from the truth does not change it. Any way, we have little animals we can’t see crawling over us all the time. So be cool!
