SILLIEST RULE? " CAN’T COUNT ON A DOUBLE PLAY" WHEN FIGURING EARNED RUNS.’ CONSIDER BASES LOADED, ON OUT; BALL HIT TO SHORT, BOOTS COMPLETELY EVERYBODY SAFE ONE RUN SCORES.. NEXT TWO MEN STRIKE OUT. OK CLEARLY THIS RUN IS EARNED. NOW CONSIDER SAME SITUATION, EXCEPT SHORTSTOP GETS THE BALL, MAKES A PERFECT THROW TO THE SECOND BASEMAN WHO TAGS SECOND, AND THEN MAKES A PERFECT THROW TO FIRST, IN TIME TO CATCH THE BATSMAN., BUT THE FIRST BASEMAN DROPS THE BALL, AND ONE RUN SCORES. THE NEXT TWO MEN STRIKE OUT AGAIN. THE RULE SAYS RUN IS EARNED !! BUT IT CLEARLY IS NOT. SEEMS TO ME THAT THE FORCEOUT AT SECOND HAS CHANGED THE SITUATION FROM " DOUBLE PLAY BALL" TO A SIMPLE GROUNDOUT. THE RUN IS UNEARNED.

This month marks 17 years of not giving a flying fongoolerization about baseball.

Shouldn’t have canceled the Series, children.

Dumbest unwritten rule in baseball? “Defensive indifference” – a team with a lead lets an opponent take second base without any attempt to throw him out, even though that out might end the game. It makes no sense.

That last is catering to the advertising revenue. The longer the game, the more ads that can be run.

Defining a sacrifice! If a batter lays down a bunt and tries too hard to get on, it will not count as a sacrifice, but if the batter tries to hit a home run but merely puts the ball to the base of the wall where it is caught then it is a sacrifice. Man on third scores in each instance.

I am not sure but I think “defensive indifference” is a written rule.
