Let’s see: the outhouse is up in the tree to accomodate the stilt enthusiasts, which means the outflow drains down to the base of the tree, where the key landed. ★৩ ☠ # !!

Uh oh! Grammar police found a syntax error: “weren’t” should be “wasn’t” because the visit to the restroom is singular. Gotcha!

    Isn’t that better than a treehouse? A tree-out-house! ;-)

To Algurka: The Grammar Police need a grammar lesson. The use of “were” is absolutely correct. It is subjunctive form. You can review this area of grammar at http://www.ceafinney.com/subjunctive/guide.html

You’re right, mloubee. The grammar police arrested Leigh, but he has been acquitted in grammar court. Here’s another good link to explain it. http://topics.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/13/subjunctivitis. There’s a similar example after “Here are a few recent cases where we missed the mark.”

I’m kinda puzzled about the need for a key… wouldn’t the vacant stilts leaning by the door act as well as any "occupied” sign?
