I’m surprised that girl-next-door Smiley vanished so completely. She went from nice kid in overalls to Paris Hilton wannabe, but never actually moved away. Always thought she was being saved for future culture clash.
Oh, I don’t know…I like her style. She’s fun, and she’s cute, and she seems to like Baldo, so what’s missing? You guys want to hold out for a Yenny? — good luck with that.
I like her. So, Hector and Carlos, if you’re going to “Listen to your readers”, listen to ME, too.
As for whether Baldo “could do a lot better”, he could also do a lot WORSE. Baldo may be the hero of the strip, but is he such a great catch himself? He’s pretty average. And living with Gracie and Tia Carmen, he’d probably be pretty comfortable with a girl with a strong personality, maybe even sharp tongue. Given Estella’s choice of hairstyle and eyeglasses, she might have a bit of an “edge.” Good for her, and good for Baldo.
Somebody at GoComics screwed up; they posted identical strips on the English- and Spanish-language “Baldo” pages. (But did they get ours, or did we get theirs?)
Yenny is a comic by Dave Alvarez (yennylopez.com). Yenny was a boricua (look it up) chica that Baldo was trying to friend on Facebook. Google “baldo yenny” to see the strips. Google “baldo smiley” to see them – Smiley liked to wear overalls.
