Supposedly the greatest ventriloquist of all time was Edgar Bergen, who had the puppets Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd. However, he made it big in radio where the listener couldn’t tell if his lips were moving or not! I’ve seen him in clips of later television appearances and his lips moved, big time! Shari Lewis did a much better job.
