It seem to me that, more often than not, Labor Day weekend was rainy growing up. Then, school would start the following Tuesday or Wednesday, and the weather was usually good.Consequently, Labor Day is not at the top of my list of favorite holidays, by a long shot!
To those in New York who are complaining about a week without power: Try three weeks in 90-100 degree heat.. and no plumbing, like Houston did after Ike. Pull up your big boy pants and get on with it.
