No kidding. His mom’s cooking grosses me out more than even hospital food. It never ceases to amaze me that there are people who think tofu is somehow good for you. The stuff is junk food and traditionally in asian cultures was a condiment—certainly not the main source of “protein” in a meal.

Not to mention soy gives men boobs and women breast cancer. Of course next month it’ll be lettuce that kills ya (or cantaloupe with listeria). After that, bacon will be good for you for a month, then it will be poison again.Ever notice how chocolate is suddenly good for you, and they haven’t backtracked on that one? I think somewhere there’s a lab full of scientists that have been captured at gunpoint to write “chocolate is good” reports. Not that I’m complaining!

As a rule, I don’t eat anything with the words “surprise”, “mystery”, or “forbidden” in the name.

In elementary school, we thought the refried beans were mystery food and we would dare each other to eat it.

I don’t think Xane was misrepresenting, I think you just missed the point. Science learns something new everyday and what they find healthy today they may very well find unhealthy tomorrow. Eggs are a prime example. Not that long ago relatively speaking any cholesterol was considered bad for you, now that’s not the case. Clearly he was joking about the bacon and you seem intelligent enough to gleem his actual point and get it.

Tofu is actually a relatively modern addition to Asian food as a source of “protein” (I use quotes because it really is a very bad source and the possible deleterious effects of eating large amounts of unfermented soy over a period of years far outweigh any possible benefit). More than 50 years ago it was more common to see a few bits here and there in with a meal, rather than the opposite which is becoming more common and is being promoted by some governments. Tofu is cheap. Very bad for you in large and regular doses, but cheap.

Not according to the most recent studies, unless someone is severely lactose intolerant, to the point that any benefits are defeated.
