Even if the suit is self sealing; he’s got to worry about the virus in Wally’s saliva entering his blood stream. I think the honeymoon is over for the happy topsider couple.

I was reviewing the strip recently. One TS was able to part a rope that had stopped a transporter. The rope was tied around his wrists. That was impressive and strange, as in ‘what allowed that to happen?’. And now Wally is trying to gnaw on that area. In another place we still have the other two of the party. Doing … what? Well not doing much to aid that fight. I could understand that Flask has both a false sense of confidence in Wally, and maybe some resentment or hostility toward him. One or the other might make her hesitant to attack. But from what I understand, Petey likes or respects or loves the two in peril. And Petey can fly. And maybe able to do more. And Flask will generally protect Petey. It just all takes so much time, and a shot right now could hit someone that wiggled into the shot. But a shot could also distract the TC people. For that matter, depending on the frequencies available to Petey, he could convince the guns and the transporter to switch sides. He certainly knows their positions from the inside. Again, time and we have been tracking the most interesting part of the fight. Which gets down to the bandwidth of a cartoonist: never what the readers voraciously desire.
The gloves that Wally is gnawing on, in a prior strip parted rope that could stop a transporter in action. I would think that Petey, at least, would try to intervene. And Flask would follow to protect him. Shooting into the melay could get our heros killed. Shooting to distract would still work. Petey could try to convince the guns and the transporter to change sides, but that takes both time and access to the right frequency band. We have been looking at the exciting part, but there should be action elsewhere.
I agree Flask is being too cavalier with the lives of her team members, but I doubt that her hesitance to intervene is entirely ill-considered.
Up until about now, Doug and Linda figured they could easily out-man these endtowners. It’s possible they haven’t even radioed in to base about Wally and Holly’s existence yet. If well-armed reinforcements were to show up, the humans would likely call for immediate backup. This would not only make the fight more difficult, it would put the entire base on alert.
This same thing could happen if Flask were to fire a distracting shot over their heads, or if Petey were to try and contact a gun or transport that was unwilling to switch sides. (We’ve seen before how a gun can, unilaterally, send in its current location and call in the cavalry. If Petey were to try and talk to the topsiders’ equipment, he had better be absolutely sure that they will listen and not turn on him.)
In the end, they’ve got to remember, the point of the mission is to take out the rocket. If they can do that by shooting up the whole base, fine. If they can do that by sneaking in unnoticed (or as unnoticed as possible), even better.
Hey, one of the purity people is now contaminated by cat fang. Will it’s buddy be forced to off it in fear of Wally’s DNA turning it into a cat person? or will either one survive Flask deciding to take them both out.
@GodelBullet proof vests are particularly vulnerable to sharp, pointed edged weapons. They may be able to stop a bullet, but a sharp, strong knife can go through them like a hot knife through butter.
Such language! That bite must really sting. And no doubt that whack to the head was indeed as painful as it sounded.Let’s hear it for the Cat and Mouse!
To the person that commented yesterday that Wally ought to have frizzed tail because that’s what happens when he’s excited, look now! It’s a full-on feather duster, complete with angry cat attachment. Not a good combination.
Wow, I just finished reading as far back as mid-December. This is a wonderful story and wonderful capturing of expressions! I’ve also enjoyed getting acquainted with the other readers thru your comments. So I’m wanting to buy the book. It looks like the topsiders are doomed. Holly has some looong feet! I’m so happy they have found each other. I’m looking forward to learning Flask’s story.
Good points, Bill. I did not have the idea that the others were doing anything but waiting for Our Heros to arrange a ride. Actually though, Bill, if they subdue or kill the TS crowd, the equipment might still give them away, unless some one planted a seed of doubt, distrust and switch sides. And who better than one who has been there?

Did Wally just puncture Doug’s suit? This could get really bad, really fast.

Maybe Wally and Holly are acting as a diversion while the others are sneaking up on the base?

Flask is behind the transporter and actively engaged in some kind of action. She’s not ignoring Wally and Holly, she’s busy doing her job.
