Of course it needs to be privatized… the gubmint let it fall into a state of disrepair, blamed someone else for the failure to keep it clean, then sanctioned a $10M study to detemine whether or not the flys that were infesting it had rights to unfettered access….
Reminds me of the time someone wanted to install self-cleaning public toilets at popular spots in Manhattan. The city stopped it because they were not wheel-chair accessible.
It should never be an issue of whether to privatize something. The more fundamental issue is whether it is anything the gummint should be doing at all.
I have sometimes debated with others whether the welfare state deserves to be called socialist since even Sweden doesn’t nationalize more than a few industries. (My eventual decision is that the welfare state IS socialist because what has been nationalized is the taxpayer.)
But by what definition of socialism to you consider a household socialist? A hippy commune or a monastic order, just maybe, but a household?!
Privatizing the loo reminds me of my childhood, when there were still pay-toilets in places like bus stations and airports. You don’t see that anymore and I suspect that it’s because, to paraphrase my Dad, people were protesting by peeing in the corner.
