Hi quartermain as well as the rest of you apemen and apewomen! Here is an anecdote that will mean absolutly nothing. I was on lunchbreak from the va for a checkup in san antonio, so i walked to the hooters down the block. I took my tarzan 1976 backissue comic with me so i could read since i was eating alone. The most gorgeous out of all the waitresses that were there came up to me and started chatting me up while i was reading the chimp detective bonaus story. She told me how she liked the x-men and the strong female characters in it. I saw it as a good opportunity to break the ice and the possability of a date since we were close in appearence and age. So i showed her this part of the chimp detective that i thought was hysterical were the chimp gets his detective hat shot off and gets pissed off. She actually didnt like it:(

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t ERB tell us that Kerchak and Kala were a ‘couple’ and the baby ape was actually Kerchak’s?

Although it has been several decades since I read the book, I have a couple of quibbles with the story line here that could be a reflection on my memory rather than on the current author.First, I thought Lord Greystoke’s journal was in English and was the reason Tarzan was so confused when he learned his first European language, French, but it didn’t seem to have any correspondence to the written language he had taught himself from his parents’ books.Second, my recollection was that Tarzan’s mother died fairly quickly after his birth, rather than when he was a year old. I may be misremembering this, since it makes a lot more sense that he could have survived (what is about to happen) as a 12-month old than as a newborn. Please let me know if my memory is totally shot.
