Wow! Looks like we’re going to get to see Tracy devote himself to the cause of justice some 80 years after the original. How cool. I think I see where the team is going with this and it looks far less revisionist than I initially thought. Great time to be a Tracy reader!
As far as the complaints that the new team is changing past history a bit – I don’t mind. They are staying within the original story without upsetting the apple cart.
I have seen comic books and old TV shows put on the big screen that were an insult to the orginal story – like the Green Hornet.
I’m going to go and re-read the first Dick Tracy adventure. It seems the new team is doing Chester Gould proud! Thanks for NOT forgetting the rich history of this strip!
I agree. I’m unfamiliar with the old Dick Tracy stories from the 30’s since my memory of DT only goes back to the 60’s. It’s great to be reading this flashback.
NICELY DONE!!!For those who were complaining this is not like the Original. Of course it’s not this is Sam’s, retelling of the story. As everyone does, when someone one tell a story, joke, etc. it gets changed a little. Making it their own.So, if Sam puts Tracy in uniform (which makes way more sense and I personally am enjoying that aspect). Then, so be it. I have no complaints about anything the Team has done thus far. Excellent work guys (and lady) keep it up..So for all those who say the new team is ruining history,I say so be it!!!But, if you must blame someone. Blame SAM it’s his story after all…
Good going guys and a gal! Bravo! Your team is going to get the readership up, re-ignite Tracy fervor, and by popular demand, RE-OPEN THE MUSEUM! Then, Mattie will have something to do again! Whoot! Whoot!
Sisyphos says: Trueheart’s Deli! Oh, man, we all know what’s coming, and that’s a part of history even a Time Lord couldn’t fix. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Fix it?….FIX it? FIX, Let me ask you,….WHO do you think helped get those two together Hmmm?
Love the 1939 Zenith floor model tube radio my father had in the first panel. Donated it to Salvation Army when FM radio came out. Would be worth a small fortune today.
Regarding yesterday’s comments about size of hat. In panel 2 Dick’s hat looks quite large. Chief Brandon is a large man so it follows his hat would be large. I think it’s the perspective in panel 3 that makes them seem different.
Something I stumbled on today I thought I would share with you all.The What NOW Caper was the very first tele-production to ever detail the complete production process of a comic book, as it was in the 1980s. From concept to printing, Mel Mudd, The flat-footed comic-book detective takes you on a campy journey through the step-by-step process, looking for the missing NOW Comics cartoon characters.Produced by Alan Lusk and Frank Kostka at City-Video Productions, The What NOW Caper was a hugely popular rental at video stores throughout the USA in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Reality Television before Reality Television, The What NOW Caper includes real creators doing their comic books and not actors! It also includes real-life founder and publisher Tony Caputo playing the “mogel publisher”.I think you will all recognize “The Inker” in this docu-drama as well. The What NOW Caper

Minor detail: I’m glad we’re not getting a caption in every strip reminding us this is a flashback. Once or twice a week is enough.

At least the new team keep the strip moving and don’t show the same scene ten times a week as Locher did. Keep up the good work guys.

I don’t study comic strip history. My memory is that it took a long time to get Dick and Tess to the altar.
