Good morning! I’m enjoying this history lesson!

Anyone know if 88 Keys and BB Eyes are related? They look like they may be.

On Tracy’s hall of creators, I remember my dad reading that strip " Dan Dunn" way back in the 1930’s to me. The name was catchy but don’t remermber any of the plots.Also Jane Arden who had paper doll cut outs on Sunday , Yes , I cut them out because her husband was in them also.

Great history lesson/flashback, told from Sam’s perspective! I especially like the Sunday strips: longer, reliable coloring, Zoom-feature giving old-time full size, and all the rest from the fine new Team Tracy….

It is more than amazing how over-his-head Locher was with Tracy. Under his watch, he buried decades of significant history, chosing to push a PC transformation of Tracy to the surreal, all the while completely ignoring Tracy’s fan base and in realty, insulting them. I have no doubts whatsoever that Chester Gould’s family feels shortchanged and now relieved. Mike, Joe, and the rest of the team, every day you bring back a ray of hope in a lot of people’s lives! Bravo!

Joe, Mike, Shelley, Shane & Jim … GREAT JOB!!!!! I really like how Joe managed to make Tracy look young in this flashback. And Shane’s coloring is perfect.

Weekday colorist(s), PLEASE take a good look at today’s strip. The coloring A-Team knows how it’s done! The grayscale/sepia tones used for the flashback panels are spot on. Excellent work (as always), Joe/Mike/Shelley/Shane!!

Great strip with a great, detailed, exciting and fast moving story. And it shows why the coloring should be left to someone who knows what he’s doing. Good job, Shane, and the rest of Team Tracy.

Mike and Joe are rewriting DT history, but WHO CARES…it’s a great story!

Dick Tracy’s origin story “the way (Sam) heard it” may deviate from the 1931 original, but we all know how stories grow with the retelling, so I don’t mind at all! Especially given this version includes Flattop, Blowtop and now 88 Keys!

The art is great (as always), and the black and white makes it look like a vintage ’30s movie! (I almost expect to see a young Humphrey Bogart somewhere.)

Mike, Joe, Shelley & Shane – just when I think the strip can’t get any better, you top yourselves! Woo! Gosh!

Thanks for spotlighting Rick Fletcher — the most seriously underrated DT artist. His style may have been a bit different from Gould’s, but he rendered some of Collins’s most memorable stories in a way that showed he really cared about the strip and its readers.I hope writer Max Collins gets spotlighted next.

Can we PLEASE stop picking on Mr. Locher. Why not just enjoy the strip now that it is in the hands of this very talented creative team? After all, he DID keep the strip alive, and if you look at his early work, when he first took over from Rick Fletcher, it is actually quite good. I don’t know what happened later, maybe he just got older. There is no point in causing him to feel bad, in case he is reading these comments. Even Chester Gould himself had lapses where, IMO the art wasn’t as good as when he was at his best.

Hmm.. A fan picking actors to play in Dick Tracy, where have I seen that before?

Interesting story about Dick Tracy. I used to read the comic strip when I was a kid and now reading it again.

Chester Gould used to spend months developing a character and seeing what would happen up to that character’s usually grusome demise. Now these clowns are not only rewriting Tracy’s history, but he’s bringing in old classic characters like a revolving door and getting them out of the strip just as quickly. There’s no sense or direction to this strip anymore. Am I the only one that sees this???

There is a Gould written arc of Tracy in blue. If memory serves it can be found in The Smithsonian collection of newspaper comics.

Yes, Joe and I are just retelling the origin for the 80th anniversary.75 percent of the villians that we will be using will be new. The majority of returning ones will be linked to Mr Crime.

In other comments, actors that could play the Tracy characters.In THE DARK KNIGHT, when the Joker is delivered to Gamble, there’s a black actor playing the Joker’s henchman who could very easily play Flattop. I have no idea of the actor’s name.

This strip is just such a pleasure to look at and read…I’m really enjoying the ride. I’ll admit to being a purist, but the return of so many colorful characters (both leading and supporting) is a real thrill. I’ve been a fan for over 45 years, and I haven’t enjoyed it this much since the ’70’s. It’s like meeting an old friend who looks as good as ever and is still as fun as you remember!
