A couple of observations – This strip must have appeared in 1952. And Mutt’s visage did change a lot since 1907.
When Mutt first appeared, he was a horse race-betting addict, and he spent a good bit of time in an insane asylum.

Mutt is tall and, in the dark, handsome.
N .Y.C. mayor Fiorello LaGuardia used to read the Sunday funnies over a major radio network (Boston) for us kids back in the 30s. I had spread the comic section out on the floor and followed along, it’s how I learned to read.
AuldWan The mayor did that at the time because there was a newspaper strike on and he said he didn’t want the kids to miss their comic strips.
