For those Tracy fans who want to compare the original to the current I am providing these links I found. I am NOT the originator of these reproductions, so don’t blame me for the quality:The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 1The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 2The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 3The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 4The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 5The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 6The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 7The Original “How Tracy Got His Start” Story – Page 8
For the detectives out there. I have changed my avatar. Gold star to whoever can:(1) Figure out the full name of the character portrayed,(2) Explain why I may have chosen her for my avatar.I expect good things from Det.DanDone and Idlesama (Did I spell that right?).
For those that have trouble viewing the images I posted above, try doing this. Hold down the “Ctrl” key and press the “+” key a couple of times. That should help a bit.To reset, hold the “Ctrl” key down and press “zero”.
Tess looks stellar here. I love how this story arc is going. It’s like watching “Titanic,” where even when you know what’s going to happen, you can’t help but watch it unfold in front of you. Great job, people.
Tess is looking young (like Tracy) and hot, and the story is closely faithful to the original—thanks for those links, Tarry, even if they were a bit of a strain to read!
My avatar, Natsumi Kato from the manga and animated series Bakuman, is the only female assistant to the creators of the graphic novel “Detective Trap”, a story about a detective who uses traps (sting operations) to trick the villains into confessing their crimes. The creators are two high school boys. One writes the stories, the other does the art. They have three assistants that they hired after they got serialized. Two guys and a girl. One of the guys is knowledgeable about how the manga business works and is mostly a director and lead to the rest, the other guy and the girl (Natsume Kato) are assistants, and do stuff like inking and shading of the artwork.Hmmm… I wonder why I might have chosen this avatar. (grin)
Ok, having gone pretty far through the originals again as posted above, it is pretty ambiguous as to whether Tracy was a Cop or not, and Gould left enough hooks for our current stewards to make Tracy have been a Cop first and go right under cover the first day as a detective, accellerated from the original plans between Chief Brandon and him as shown here in the retelling. Kudos to Gould and Mike, Joe and Company for being able to pull this off, without really breaking Gould’s original “reality”. I am now a fan for life!
I will say that the parallel between Bakuman and the current Team Tracy is almost uncanny. Should I create avatars for the rest of the team as well? (grin)
As you may know, tomorrow is Apple’s big announcement about the new iPhone and some other tech stuff. Since it’s Tracy’s 80th and he’s always been ahead of it’s time in technology (just strap your iphone to your wrist and there’s your two-way wrist tv), wouldn’t it be nice if they acknowledged the strip’s special day somehow? 10-4!
Compare the young Tess with middle aged Tess:http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2011/03/14Pretty consistent. Hair cut shorter, and a little more weight.
Yeah, the education requirements have changed quite a bit in the last 100 years. I always like to show this link to show just how much things have changed.1895 eighth-grade final examI do have a problem with the solution for question number 7 in the math section though. Maybe they calculated board feet differently then.
I am glad that the 80th Anniversary of Dick Tracy is being presented in this fashion. Some say the real start is today 10/04 but the actual debute world wide could be 10/12/31. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DICK TRACY!
Joe, I love your version of Tess Trueheart. She reminds me of Nova Kane…not. I always felt Tess wasn’t in the strip enough. As Tracy’s wife there is a lot you can do with her, especially in this day and age when women are no longer confined to the house. best, Nick

A High School diploma from the early ’70s probably indicates a better education thanthan a 2011 college degree.
