Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for October 02, 2011
Transcript:
"Camille stood on the windswept cliff, the night's stars the only witness to her lonely plight. One year had passed since her lover boarded the train for the war. One year of tears and long nights and desperate letters. But as the separation grew, so did the time between his letters, each less passionate than the last. Now, on the threshold of the reunion to which they had once both counted down the minutes, she stood uncertain that he would return to her at all. And then, at the hour of the darkest night of the soul, a silhouetted figure. An army uniform. A familiar gait. And a smile illuminated by the stars. And a joyous call from Camille to her lover... 'BEAN DIP!'" Goat: See, I think the man needs a different name. Pig: Names are soooo hard. Rat: Call the chick 'Fritos'. Then you've got something.

Does Camille know about Juliet??
hariseldon59 about 13 years ago
Who knew Pig could write like that? I thought he could barely read.

Beanblossom is better. (Man! I’m really dredging up the ancient memories today!)

_Le Cochon, he looks so French! He is l’artiste, no doubt! Mais, M. Bean Dip? I think not!

Names are easy. Finishing a manuscript, finding an agent and getting published is hard.

Raspberry ice — yeah, I prefer a monitor, myself.

Keno, I had the same thought. Was Juliet the little side dish that distracted the rotten Dip?That’s really cheesy.
And I think it was GoodQuestion who suggested the name Frito or Frita the other day.

Wow, Pig — with the exception of “Bean Dip”, that was really good writing.

Some said that Camille’s great love of Bean Dip was but a passing thing, yet it could not be denied that she now had a certain air about her.

i am a romance writer and think this strip is hilarious. Names ARE hard. I like this so well I want to include it in my blog on that subject (names being hard, that is, not Bean Dip) at http://bootcamp-classroom.blogspot.com/ and hope its okay with you. Again, very funny.

Ha. This one reminds me of a semi-classic “Garfield” comic ….http://www.gocomics.com/garfield/1993/04/28

You know, the rhythm and sound of our hero’s name makes me think of “Wuthering Heights” for same reason. The fact that the hero is a Dip doesn’t detract from the similarity.

The worst thing for a pig is to be disgruntled.
corzak about 13 years ago
He could be “M. Haricot Trempette” . . . in French . . .

The line about going off to the war gives a whole new meaning to shipping “bullets and beans” to the front.
Maybe the antagonist is “Tracer Bullet”? Or is he more of a Dum dum?

Fritos+bean dip=YUM
RinaFarina about 13 years ago
How about M. le dip du bean?
And don’t forget bathos… the opposite of pathos… that is, a sustained period of sorrow, followed by an abrupt descent to ridicule! M. le bathos?

This is almost as good as the penguin strip! That was and will remain my all-time fav, but yours is the best alternative :$
