Directors? Probably not. Directors is brewed by the London-based Courage brewery. Andy Capp is a proud North-Easterner. I would not speculate on whether he is a Geordie, a Makkem or a Borderer, but one thing you will find is that the further north you go in England, the more London beers are despised as thin, weak, watery, and perceived as being produced by a process having less to do with brewing and more to do with micturation. As a character in a Yorkshire novel once observed
“Memory is like a pint of London ale – it doesn’t last forever, thank God”.
British beers are regional. Andy is mostl ikely to drink Newcastle Brown or Federation and would never in his life DREAM of drinking anything with soft Southern connotations. Maybe if he was in London and had no other choice – but certainly not at home.
Maybe this is tribal prejudice – this contributor, whilst being from North Wales (Wrexham border Bitter) and living in Manchester (Holts and Boddingtons) would personally say the best beers in England are both from East Anglia Tolly’s (Suffolk) and Adnams (Norfolk).
And Courage, to the unprejudiced palate, is not really that bad – just try telling a Geordie that.

If you want to really test your ability to explain, try giving directions with your hands in your pockets.
