“Gravity is arbitrary.” Especially in toons

Dad doesn’t seem to be pulling his leg here either. He actually seems to be enjoying the span of imagination.

Actually, unless you’re at the South Pole, you’re looking straight OUT at the stars. It’s only at the South Pole (aka the bottom of the earth) that you’re actually looking “straight down” at the stars overhead — and there’s no grass to hold on to, either!

It all started with a gravity defying balloon. Then Calvin’s vivid long range imagination took over. But the story was a lot of hot air.

I think Dad likes the idea of Calvin’s immunity to the force of gravity without getting it back.

Perhaps it’s a look into future!

No need for Gov. Perry to repeal the commie, socialist, law of gravity. Each person can be self reliant and deal with it themselves as Calvin demonstrated.

I fear death, I think, it’s in this way and I don’t know, what will happen with my soul and where I will fall!

Perhaps in the real world. But this isn’t real. It’s either a Cordrazine halucination…or a comic book fantasy, where cartoon physics rule.

@somebody short: in my experience, it didn’t have to be at night – it’s just as easy to fall down into the blue, blue sky… but what a wonderful experience!

I really like seeing how interested Dad REALLY is in Calvin’s tale. Cute!

Now Dad just needs to invent a machine that will take away any gravity near Calvin.

How come the Sunday Calvin & Hobbes isn’t showing up in my email? The Monday through Saturday are showing up okay. This is the third Sunday in a row this has happened. I pay for the subscription so I don’t have pull up each strip. So as an FYI, this service I subscribe to isn’t a necessary service, I can just as easily NOT subscribe to it.

I loved “The Light Princess” by George MacDonald, which has this premise. The uninvited fairy curses the baby princess to have “no gravity”. @Dogsniff: That’s how it is – some do, some don’t. Religion is totally outside the realm of things that can be proven or disproven using logic and science. Otherwise it wouldn’t involve faith.

Its great that dad finds it interesting.If Calvin’s imagination was encouraged and channeled, just imagine what he might become. A writer, artist, or maybe a cartoonist.
