I wonder if the “familiar” corpse is going to be another of Tracy’s old adversaries. And I’m wondering if the two ambulance attendants are actually cameos of people on the Tracy production team. Terry – eh, Tarry – how far off am I?
Well, Chet the coroner may recognize that distinctive profile, but I don’t. I guess yesterday’s toff reported his dumpster discovery, and the detectives will be all over this like, well, you know what gets all over a corpse….
The profile looks like that of Big Frost, Chief Brandon’s shooter. From the back of his head, Chet looks like he could be Chester Gould! Wouldn’t that be fun if the team made him the coroner!
I’m guessing that Chief Brandon’s shots found their mark, and the shooter stumbled out as far as the alley, only to expire. And, yes, I think the shooter was Big Frost. Now, was he on his own, or did someone send him to do that job?
My hat has been off to Joe, Mike, and the team for some time. Every day, every week I’m more impressed with their work, and the entire body of work has been amazingly excellent and more fun than I’ve had reading a comic strip in many years.
That said, if this coroner character plays out like I think it will, based on today’s clue, this will most likely turn out to be my favorite twist in any entertainment media, EVER.
Well played, Team Tracy! It just gets better and better!
Yesterday’s strip looks so good in B&W..Unfortunately, it looks like we’ve lost one more source for uncolored dailies =/ ComicStripNation is putting great big ugly watermarks all over their strips now.
Been reading Tracy since the late ‘40s. Was very frustrated, along with many others, how it had gone downhill…but now it’s back to its former Goulden glory years under the new team who have a sense of history. Read with interest the group comments and have decided to join in.By the way, the corpse profile is definitely Big Frost.
The strip is getting TOO GOOD in several ways! The artwork is flawless; it might as well be a series of photos. And the content is Pulitzer Prize material – not a bunch of kindergarten crud, like we were……… oh, never mind! I like my intelligence and imagination to be challenged from time to time and Team Tracy certainly does that on a daily basis! Thanks, guys (and gals)!
For those who want another black & white source: http://www.chron.com/entertainment/comics-games/comic/Dick-Tracy/
.I think Comic Strip Nations watermark is unintentional. I think someone accidentally posted the watermarked version from the syndicate. I suspect that it will be back to normal next week.
I cast my vote for Big Frost, too, or at least a relation. It would make sense for Chet to recognize him. For those who don’t know, Big Frost was patterned after legendary Chicago publisher Joe Patterson, who gave Chester Gould his big break with, of course, Dick Tracy. Knowing that piece of history, the third panel gave me a big smile.

That profile—the nose and the haircut—must be Big Frost. But did he stumble into the trash bin or was he lying beside it?

Plainly the coroner is Henry “Chet” Kissinger and the DOA is Richard Nixon.
