I don’t like to hit anything, but you can’t total your wheels hitting a squirrel at 65 mph (unless you swerve into a tree, of course) but you sure as hell can by hitting a deer.

Poor little handicapped fawn! Its left front leg bends one way and its right front bends the other way. (Panel 3.) And to Zippo, evidently you have never hit one of these creatures before, so good for you. But when that day comes, and it will, then you can refer to yourself as an idiot. Provided you live through the experience.

When we moved to the Upper Peninsula of MI our insurance agent said When you hit a deer, just hit it don’t swerve. If you swerve and hit a tree and there is no deer you can’t prove there was one. We took careful not that he said when, no if. In 15 years there my other half hit 3, and I hit 2. There are huge herds of deer up there. A herd of 6 is small.

Once, while I was in Anchorage, AK, I saw a moose cross a street during rush hour. It stepped OVER a couple of small cars. Now there’s an animal you do not want to collide with.
