Ah, but Descartes was not arguing that consciousness causes existence, he was arguing that consciousness proves existence. If I think, there must be an “I” that is doing the thinking; therefore, I can be certain that I exist. (Everything else may be a delusion of the senses.)
Of course, what Rene was really trying to do was provide a rational proof of the existence of God, and in that, he failed.

Popeye was Ayn Rand’s favorite cartoon character. “I am what I am and that’s all what I am.” Reality is real. A is A.
(But the Descartes part is wrong. Existence precedes consciousness, not the other way around.)

Jack, you left the “a” off “atheist”.

Knowing Popeye, shouldn’t it be, “I thinks, therefore I yam what I yam.”

Don’t you have to think before you can think about what you are thinking?

Descartes walked into a bar and was asked by the bartender. “Do you want beer?” He replied, “I think not,” and he immediately disappeared.
