Sure, blame it all on Hobbes.

My parents used to leave us kids in the car all the time. There was nothing wrong with it back in the ’60’s.

How does a school bus full of kids “dives” from the sidewalk? And what is a school bus full of kids doing on a sidewalk in the first place? Shouldn’t it be one the street? And shouldn’t it be swerving onto the sidewalk?

Yes, these are old strips. The artist “retired” from drawing these years ago. But they’re still hilarious. I’m just thinking that Mom better never leave her car keys behind when she goes into a store with Calvin still in the car.

With horrible parents like his, it’s no wonder why Calvin acts the way that he does.

@afficionado And COMIC is the operative word. Some people forget that a COMIC is like a joke. It doesn’t have to be reality; just close enough to make the PUNCH LINE work. Really.

I tried multiple times to change my avatar today to reflect that Halloween is now over and Thanksgiving will soon be upon us but no matter how hard I tried, every image I selected gave me an “error failure” message (and yes, I made sure every single image was under 2 mb as the site instructed). Anyone else having this problem today or is it just me and my computer stupidness is acting up again? Thanks!

Mom will be so thrilled when she turns the key on and finds the turn signal on, and the windshield wipers on, and probably the radio turned up full volume, and…

Even as a preschooler and living in the country I used to wander as much as a mile from home. Great way to learn land navigation. However, since then deer have made a comeback which attracted preditors (sp?) such as coyotes plus now more two legged preditors – it just isn’t safe to leave a kid outside in less than a fenced area. Goodbye to Eden.

Jeeze Louise Mom loosen up. And by the way, leaving a 5 year old in a car alone these days would get you arrested. However once the cops met Calvin they’d roll up the windows and lock the doors too.

might be a comic but I could not imagine a mother leaving a child like this one in a car alone for 2 seconds let alone to “run an errand”. EGADS!

Reminds me of the response the fox made to the farmer when the fox was hiding in the henhouse: “nobody here but us chickens”. Or the other old saw when stopped by the police: Nobody was driving officer, we were all in the back seat" ….

@NURBZ: I realize I’m commenting long after most of the commenters are no longer gonna read this, but I’m 72 and when I’m in Miami, FL and waiting for the G Bus, which takes it’s time coming, once in a while I ask someone driving a car who’s stopping at the light by the bus stop if he can take me. They often do – it helps that I speak Spanish – so far I’ve never had a proble.

    Going “faster” than 90 mph?

Reminds me of the G-minor piano sonata of Robert Schumann (1838), where in the first movement we find “as fast as possible” and then “faster” followed by “still faster.”

Bill Watterson is making sure the reader knows Hobbes is doing the actions, not Calvin. Also, it seems funnier than if Hobbes said “I put on the turn signal”, etc. That is my opinion.
