In Flanders FieldsBy: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)Canadian Army
In Flanders Fields the poppies blowBetween the crosses row on row,That mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days agoWe lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,Loved and were loved, and now we lieIn Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:To you from failing hands we throwThe torch; be yours to hold it high.If ye break faith with us who dieWe shall not sleep, though poppies growIn Flanders fields.
Remembrance:They shall no grow old as we that are left grow oldAge shall not weary them nor the years condemnAt the going down of the sun and in the morningWe shall remember them- Lawrence Binyon
Calvin doesn’t seem to realize that he has dug himself into a ‘grave’ situation with both Dad and Mom. It will all come out in the wash (and the bath), but Calvin probably has soiled his reputation irreparably this time
@dimeadance This is not Memorial Day, it is Veteran’s Day. Today we honor ALL veterans, passed and living, old AND young. We thank them all. @marg wonderful!Everyday I come here, I’m reminded of Watterson’s brilliance.
As a Vietnam vet, thanks for all the vet thoughts. However, our thoughts and prayers should be focused on the future vets – those men in women who are right now in harms way. Semper Fi.
margueritem. Thanks, it has never been stated better. I have contended that disabled vet deserve everything they need, and we should stop disabling more.
My family has served in the armed forces for many years and I’m definitely grateful to all who have served and continue to serve. My husband (Air Force), Dad (Army), Stepfather (82nd Airborne), Brothers (Army)—not to mention many others—proudly served. (One of my brothers did 3 tours in Viet Nam.) We remember…

Calvin looks a lot like Pigpen today. What ever happened to Pigpen anyway?

Somehow I will bet that this will occupy his thoughts for the rest of the day and be a bit of a distraction.

While it is good to honor the dead, lets trying honoring the young living. They are this countries resources being wasted in un-needed conflicts.

Dad to himself: “Wait . . . what?!?!? Oh, crap! What’s he done now?!?!?”

But the question remains – what was Calvin burying? I vote for a smelly old cat (not Hobbes).

Why the small print? You’ve been doing this on a few strips. Some of the older folks with poor eyesight will curse you.
