Lucy went into business, and with her agressive tendencies, did well in the 80s marketplace. The same “skills” that made her a rich woman made her a lonely one, so she finally had recourse to a sperm donor clinic. Her child’s autobiographical novel (out this Christmas) makes “Mommie Dearest” look like a Sunday-school picnic.
Gotta say ol’ Loosey is a bit all over the place on this topic. Just the other day she was helping Linux through withdrawal while his blanket was in the wash. Here she’s pretty militant.
Don’t know the referent, but Linus is quoting. If this strip is from ‘64, did LBJ or someone use the term ’Tactics of Extremism’? The word ‘extremism’ was certainly in the air, but I don’t remember any ‘Tactics of…’.
Goldwater very famously said, in his 1964 presidential nomination acceptance speech, “Extremism in the defence of liberty is no vice.” I wasn’t around but “extremism” must have been a buzzword at the time.
I can’t completely fault Lucy for her disgust towards Linus. He should have long outgrown the thumb-sucking and blanket-carrying thing by his age. She wasn’t nearly so mean to Rerun.

I’m not sure I would want to be her kid.

She’ll be frustrated, crabbier than ever and left on the shelf when she grows up.

What’s Lucy’s problem anyway. So many kids, including my older son, had security blankets and a lot still do. She’s like a Taliban official.

@reidharrison — that’s “Linus,” not “Linux.” You can tell it’s a new century, can’t you?

Considering it was 1964 when this was drawn, I wonder if Linus’ “extremism” comment was directed at Goldwater.

Why EXTREISM?
