Agnes, I have always wondered if the opposite of “ruthless” means “having ruth, or with ruth”? Wha’cha think?

My Dad used that word when I was a kid. I was washing my hair and he said that I must not have used soap, because there hadn’t been any suds on my head. “There were lots of suds!” I protested. He answered, “There wasn’t a single sud on your head!”

Granny, I prefer my version: “You are labouring under the erroneous impression that I care.”

chris042, “ruth” is an archaic word, but it’s real (although my spellcheck isn’t recognizing it). It means “remorse” or “pity”, and is related to “rue.”

Grandma must rue the day she joined the ruck and decided to be ruthless in choice of caring which questions to answer. .(see – this is what happens at 8:30 am when I decide to be rueful and hit the dictionary to double check on things.).Its 8:30 in the am people! Way (whey) too early to start thinking!

I love Granny’s reply. I’m going to have to save that one for a signature.
